Today marks the one month anniversary of my arrival in Kathmandu. It’s great to look back and think about all I’ve seen and all I’ve done since I got here, and how quickly things have progressed over the last week. For instance, today Muni’s car mechanic stopped by. He’s the gentleman we tried to visit a few weeks back, the mechanic who was unable to see us because he was meditating. Today, after he took a look at Muni’s car, he helped weld us a support stand for the bicycle dynamo.

Shyami, Sudere and Santos wanted to show off -- they thought generating electricity was fun!

It makes the car go faster about as much as a spoiler on a Honda Civic
After this, Sabrina, Muni and I went out to the monkey temple.

Two dogs started a fight in the middle of the temple grounds

After the temple, Sabrina, Muni and I went to the orphanage. Having seen how happy they were with just two basketballs and a bicycle pump, I can’t wait to see their reaction when they get a computer! Today, I played basketball with the kids for a good hour and a half before we had to go.

The dog is upset because I wouldn't give him food.

The kids love having their picture taken, so they can see it on the camera's screen.

This is a game I learned about today, just from watching them play. The game requires two players each with a set of rubber bands. Both players put one rubber band down on the ground. The first player has to flick the rubber bands so they line up on top of each other. If he misses (and they don’t line up on top of each other), it is the second player’s turn. If they can pick both rubber bands up with one finger, they keep both rubber bands and each player puts a new one down. Whoever runs out of rubber bands (from their starting set) loses.

It still takes me by surprise that they have horses!

The third horse returns.

On the way home, there was a large (Hindu) procession through the streets.
That’s all for now.

I really like your low tech way of solving the energy problem. Joe and I are thinking of many other locations this might work. Carry on! Also love the time you spend with the kids. Looking forward to another posting from you and hoping all is well. I’ve missed your updates the last couple of days. Love, Auntie Dot
