This morning Nani, Sami and I went to the market to pick up vegetables for tonight. They are having almost thirty relatives over for a huge reunion party. We woke up at 5:30AM and left at 6:00, while the weather was still cool.

We walked for around a mile or two and then got to the market; which Nani says is more local and much cheaper compared to the one we went to yesterday. When we arrived, I understood what she meant: rather than a few stores with well-organized signs and prices and checkout counters, this market was much more traditional, forgoing the conveniences of electricity and computers for the simplicity of scales and weights.

I also liked the look of the fruits and vegetables over the previous market: they seemed much fresher, and there was much more selection. They had everything from locally grown goods to imports such as carrots and even zucchini.

As I was leaving a local man heard me practicing my (horrible) Nepalese with Sami. He came over and said namaste and then asked if we could take a picture. Sure!

Awesome!
On the way home, we got in one of the local hop on / hop off three-wheel buses that fit six people in the back. The light as we got off was shining straight down the street, it was an awesome sight to behold.
That’s all for now.

Very nice B&W –the market makes me hungry! Are the vegetables grown in Nepal? Tomatoes?! I have trouble getting them to grow here.
